Abstract:Turn is the basic maneuver element of helicopters. The existing method studying the turn kinematic characteristic is only from the point of performance to analyze the load factor, turn radius and ignoring the variations of attack angle, sideslip angle, angular velocities and helicopter attitudes during the turn maneuver. As a result, the reliable prediction of the rotor thrust limits, aircraft performance as well as the accurate simulation of the trajectory are lost. A method is proposed in this paper to analyze the kinematic characteristic of helicopter during the steady turn flight. The relationship between velocities, attack angle, sideslip angle, load factor, angular velocities and attitudes is established for different turn conditions. The effects of steady turn conditions on the aircraft angular velocities and attitudes are analyzed.
